Course Description

This interactive three hour workshop focuses on how to highlight experiences and skills on a resume and in a cover letter and how to tailor these documents for specific roles. We will work through how to create a master resume and how to use this to develop specific tailored ones for roles you apply to. This workshop will work through how skills and experiences can be emphasized for different types of roles such as bench research roles and non-bench roles such as business development, marketing, consulting, product/project management roles, clinical, etc. We will cover why a Summary of Qualifications is important and how to develop it. Resume formatting tips will be provided to ensure your resume looks professional and clearly communicates your experiences. We will cover how to utilize cover letters effectively to complement your resume.

"Your Future in Science" is a seminar series designed for graduate research assistants and postdoctoral research associates. Held the 3rd Thursday of every month from 12-1 pm in COMRB, YFIS covers topics about career exploration and different career options, professional skills needed for career success, and preparing for the job search.
