Interdisciplinary Science & Engineering Materials Research Group
Workshop -
(ISEMRG Workshop/Spring ’08)
Sponsored by UIC Colleges of Engineering and LAS
Dear Colleagues,
We want to announce the call for papers for the 1st ISEMRG Workshop to be held at the
University of Illinois at Chicago on April 16-17, 2008. The event will take place at the
new UIC Forum.
ISEMRG focuses on promoting active research cooperation among UIC researchers,
and lays the foundation for outstanding research, intellectual latitude, strong
interdisciplinary commitment, and flexibility. Ultimately, our objective is to build up
interdisciplinary research groups at UIC that can then be integrated in response to
center grants to conduct synergistic, innovative materials research with active
collaborations with industry, national laboratories, and other academic institutions.
The purpose of the Workshop is to develop interdisciplinary research niches in areas
related to health, energy, environment, and homeland security with emphasis in
nanotechnology. In addition some emphasis will be placed on the integration of
research, education, and industry to maximize the advantages of these new
technologies for the new and practicing professionals.
The workshop will consist of three keynote lectures, technical presentations and a final
panel discussion. Technical papers are sought in all areas related to nanomaterials.
Contributions in other interdisciplinary advanced materials areas are also welcome.
Topics may include:
Design & fabrication of nanomaterials.
Nanomaterials technology in health applications and biological processes.
Techniques for nanomaterial characterization and property assessements.
Nanoconcepts for applications in medicine, including drug delivery, and
pharmaceuticals.
Environmental and health issues related to nanomaterials.
Advanced sustainable energy technologies.
Multifunctional materials and sensors.
We invite you to participate in the ISEMRG Workshop/Spring 2008. Abstracts are
requested. They should be about 300 words long and include: (i) Title of the
presentation, (ii) Author(s)’ name(s), affiliations, and email addresses. The abstracts
should be submitted no later than March 30, 2008 to:
J. Ernesto Indacochea
